Parent Volunteers
Several parents have asked about helping on club training nights. We would be very grateful for any help, so if you are interested please to talk to Phil Pittock (Chairperson), Sarah Hart (Club Secretary & Child Protection and Welfare Officer) or James Bridge (Athletics Development Officer).
We would advise, however, that, because we take our obligation to provide a duty of care and to protect all young people and vulnerable adults very seriously, we have decided to follow England Athletics’ guidance and we do require all club officials, coaches and volunteers to undertake an Enhanced CRB check. This is required by England Athletics even if you have a current check from another organisation.
Don’t let it put you off though – the process is very straightforward, it is free for volunteers and from recent experience is quicker than you might think.
Some parents have also asked about coaching courses. Two of our coaches started as parent volunteers with the Thanet Baby Bolts, they have started their training, they are being mentored by higher level coaches and are now well on the way to becoming fully qualified coaches with Thanet Athletics Club.
England Athletics has recently announced details of its coaching courses over the summer and beyond, so again if you are interested please contact one of the people listed above.
