Primary Schools Cross-Country – Team Results
Upton won the team competition for the fifth consecutive year, and once again the battle for second and third went down to the very last race. Only 60 points separated St Nicholas-at-Wade in second from St Saviour’s in third before the Year 6 Boys race but, proving that every place counts, the St Nicholas-at-Wade scoring trio of Joe Payne (25th), Joel Fields (33rd) and Jack Wells (34th) picked up more points than their St Saviour’s counterparts to secure second place for the village school.
Palm Bay finished fourth, Dame Janet fifth and Cliftonville held on to sixth by just eight points ahead of a strong challenge from Chilton in seventh.
Haddon Dene won the small schools competition for the third consecutive year, despite a final day flourish from St Lawrence College. Excellent performances in the Year 6 races secured the trophy for Haddon Dene. Preston finished third.
Teams – 1st Upton 6499 points; 2nd St Nicholas-at-Wade 5602; 3rd St Saviour’s 5499.
