Thanet Athletics Club makes its competitive debut on the track – and Jake achieves national grading
Thanet Athletics Club made its competitive debut on the track at the Invicta East Kent Open Meeting last week.
The performance of the night for the club, which only launched eight weeks ago, was from Jake Davies who won his 200m race in 25.5 secs. Jake’s time was a new personal best, it gave him a national grading for the first time and, still in the U15 category, he beat U17s and U20s to achieve it. Jake also won his 300m race later in the evening in 41.8 secs.
David Whatley (U15) was second in the 400m in 68.5 secs; Sophie Clayton (U15) was third in the 200m in 29.5 secs; while Alice Fox and Tanya Bailey (both U13) were third and fifth in their 300m in 51.9 and 53.7 secs respectively.
“What a fantastic start” said club chairman Phil Pittock. “We are very proud of all our athletes. They have already inspired others and we will have many more competing at the next open meeting”.
