Kent champs-Julie Rose Stadium


14 athletes from Thanet Athletics Club competed in 38 different events on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May at the Kent athletics championships held at the Julie Rose stadium in Ashford.

Despite the appalling weather conditions on the Saturday, a host of medals and pb’s were achieved by the Thanet athletes.

Adam Wall (SM) Konrad Farrall, Connor Neal, (both U20M) and Joe Lowes (U17M) all competed in their age groups in the 100m, and despite very strong competition form other athletes in Kent everyone ran outstanding times with Connor Neal making the final. Konrad Farrall then went on to secure a well-deserved Gold in the U20M 110m hurdles.

George Seery, competing in the U17M age group had an amazing day picking up Gold in the 100mH, silver in the high jump and then jumped a PB in the long jump of 5.98m to secure his second Gold.

Lyn Sole picked up a silver medal in the SW long jump, before achieving a PB in the javelin, competing alongside fellow club member Chloe Williams who also threw an amazing distance.

Jessica Booth ran a pb in the heat of the U17W 200m to make the final where she again smashed her PB with a run of 27.97!!!

The U15G saw 5 athletes from Thanet compete on the Saturday, with Grace Jakeman and Mille Vas competing in the 200m, where Mille Vas clocked a PB before gaining another PB of 7.01m in the shot putt alongside team mates Libby Pritchard and Mabel Naisbitt who also threw a PB of 7.01m.

Mabel Naisbitt then ran a PB in the 75mH alongside team mate Keira Hulks who also ran well.

Sunday’s weather was in complete contrast to Saturday with blue skies and glorious sunshine, bringing out the best in all athletes on the day, providing strong competition all round.

The U15 girls again saw 5 athletes compete, with Keira Hulks running the 300m, making the final and then ran a PB of 45.54 finishing in a strong 4th place just narrowly missing out on the medals.

The 100m U15G saw Sophie Baker, Libby Pritchard (PB 14.59) and Grace Jakeman all compete, With Grace Jakeman making the final, where she ran a strong race. Libby Pritchard and Sophie Baker then competed in the long jump with Sophie jumping a PB of 3m65. Mabel Naisbitt completed the U15G competition with an impressive javelin throw of 20.78m.

Jessica Booth (U17W) ran an impressive PB in the 100m, narrowly missing out on the finals and Lyn Sole clocked a season best in the SW100m before competing again alongside fellow team Chloe Williams in the discus where Lyn threw a PB of 15.61m. Chloe then went on to compete in the SW shot putt, and the SW hammer where she gained her PB with an outstanding throw.

Adam Wall competed in the SM 200m and long jump, with Konrad Farrall and Connor Neal both competing in the U20m 200m with Connor making the final and finishing a respectable 6th. Joe Lowes also competed in the U17M 200m, and despite coming back from recent injuries, ran an outstanding race.

Connor Neal then went onto the long jump taking the gold medal with an impressive jump of 6.13m.

Thanet athletics club would also like to thank Tim Williams, Chloe Williams, Megan Williams and Tim Reynolds who all gave up their weekend to help with officiating at the championships, and to thank all the coaches for their relentless time and effort they put in with all the athletes, and all of the athlete’s families for being supportive.
