English Schools Beckons for Thanet AC Quartet

Four athletes from Thanet AC had the call at the weekend to be prepared for the biggest Schools Athletics Event of the year. Three of our athletes and a junior official will be making their way to Gateshead later this summer.

Diana Adegoke (ranked 9th in the country) teams up with Tamara Anderson (ranked 15th in the country) to take on the country’s elitist of athletes in the Senior Women’s long jump in Gateshead on the 9th July. The duo competed in the National Championships at the weekend where Diana jumped 5m78 to equal her personal best and finish 6th. Her 4th round jump was in excess of the elusive 6 metre barrier but it was a very close no jump. Tamara, competing in her first National event, finished 12th with a mark of 5m45. Tamara’s first jump of 5m40 was so far behind the take-off board that she too would have peppered the 6 metre line so this is a great sign for the rest of the season.

The third athlete is Erin Moses (ranked 21st in the country) in the Junior Girls 75m Hurdles. Erin is one of the first reserves for the team after her recent Kent Schools victory and after running personal bests yet again at the weekend in the hurdles (11.60s) and the 100m (12.90s) so she will be eagerly waiting to see if she gets a late call up.

Their coach Darren Hatton said “For Diana and Tamara it’s great to see that these 2 training partners have both made it through for their selections to English Schools as it’s their final year to do so. I think that now they have had the call up they will be itching to get closer to that 6 metre mark to turn a few heads!!

As for Erin, she has had a fabulous season so far and looks set to be an amazing talent for the future. If she gets a late call up for the English Schools it would be a great experience at such a young age to go so fingers crossed.”

Joining the girls as Kent's junior official is Chloe Williams - this is the second time she has been afforded this honour, thanks to her ongoing commitment to officiating representing the club, county and now national level.
