U11 Athletics Series 2019

Thanet Athletics Club hosted the last of the U11 summer series on Friday 5th July 2019.

After record numbers of entries in the first two meetings, Friday topped the records with over 70 young athletes competing, meaning that the whole series attracted several hundred entires overall. As well as Thanet based athletes, including those from several local schools, the club welcomed competitors from Dover Road Runners, Invicta East Kent AC and Central Park Athletics Club in Dartford over the whole series.

Despite the first two meetings being plagued by wind and rain, the sun certainly shined on everyone on Friday.

The series is run over 3 meeting, with athletes accumulate points to find the outright winners in each category.

The events are split into years 3 and 4 girls and boys, and year 5 and 6 girls and boys respectively.

The years 3 and four have to compete in the standing long jump, mega howler, 75metres and 400metres.

Years 5 and 6 compete in the standing long jump, mega howler, 75metres and a grueling 600metres to finish!!!

The U11 summer series has been running successfully for several years now, growing in size and stature yearly with increased numbers of entries.

“It is vitally important to continue to develop these young athletes through the U11 series at Thanet Athletics Club, to move them forward to becoming the star athletes of the future. Without grass root competitions such as this one, we cannot find and nurture future world class athletes, competing at the highest level possible.”

A huge thank you to all coaches, officials, parents and the committee for giving up their time freely to make this event possible.
