With a number of athletes moving up through the age groups and out of the junior leagues Thanet AC has competed in the Sweatshop Southern Athletics League for the first time this season.
Despite relatively small numbers, the team, managed by Darren Hatton and James Bridge had some impressive results particularly taking into account their relatively young average age, with a number of athletes winning A and B string events.
There were noteable personal bests from the following athletes:
Lewis Parsons - 200m (23.7s) and discus (26.07)
Oliver Cooper - 400m (56.9), 400mH (62.2), high jump (1.60), triple jump (11.20) and discus (22.61)
Joe Small - high jump (1.20), long jump (5.10) and triple jump (9.70)
Konrad Farrall - 400m (59.9), 400mH (76.8) and 7.26K shot (8.45)
Nathan Stout - high jump (1.35) and long jump (5.16)
Adam Wall - 100m (12.97)
Danny Campion - javelin (11.91)
Jack Shale - high jump (1.55)
Megan Williams - 600g javelin (22.37)
Emily Giardina - 100m (14.2) and 600g javelin (26.58)
Clara Hawkins - high jump (1.50), long jump (4.29)
Storm Porter- javelin (25.12)
As a season finale a number of the athletes challenged themselves by competing in events they don't usually train for and have never done before with some surprising results especially in the 400m hurdles and triple jump!
It's fair to say that everyone (including the team managers who could not help but step into events that weren't covered) had a great time and are looking forward to next season!
