MEDAL HAUL FOR THANET ATHLETES

Athletes from Thanet Athletics Club competed at the Kent indoor championships held at the Lee Valley Stadium North London over the weekend 16th-17th March 2019, mustering an array of medals and personnel bests.

On the Saturday, George Seery won gold in the U17mens 60 metres hurdles, and then went on to win silver in both the U17 men’s long jump and shot. This was followed by Konrad Farrell who took the bronze in the U20 men’s 60 metre hurdles, as well as qualifying for the final of the U20 men’s 200 metres where he ran a PB. Connor Neal jumped a PB of 6.19m in the U20 men’s long jump to secure a bronze medal, and also qualified for the 200m final finishing a very respectable 4th.

Adam Wall competed in the senior men’s 200 metres securing a PB and then went on to win a bronze medal in the long jump. Other outstanding performances on the Saturday came from Dermot O’brein competing in his first indoor competition in the U17 men’s 800m final, and Mabel Naisbitt and Keira hulks both achieving PB’s in the U15 girls 60 metres hurdes. Grace Jakeman also achieved a PB in the U15 girls 200 metres securing her place in the final.

The Sunday saw more personnel bests and medals with Joe Lowes securing a PB in the U17 men’s 60 metres, and he had also competed in the 200 metres on the Saturday.

Again, Konrad Farrall and Connor Neal lined up for the U20 men’s 60 metres just narrowly missing out on the final, and Adam Wall ran a hard-fought race in the Senior men’s 60 metres.

The U15 girls 60 metres was a hard-fought competition, with Mabel Naisbitt, Mille Vas, Libby Pritchard and Grace Jakeman all running PB’s and Grace qualifying for the final where she again ran a PB.

Mabel, Mille and Libby all competed alongside Keira Hulks in the U15 girls shot, again all achieving PB’s. Keira also went on to run a PB in the U15 girls 300 metres, and Libby and Mille secured PB’s in the U15 girls long jump.

Jessica Booth competed in the U17 women’s 60 metres and then secured her PB in the 300m.

All athletes exceeded expectations, and are now looking forward to a short rest before preparing for what should be an outstanding summer season.
