Sunday 15th January 2023 saw the season opener for Thanet's Ismae Abomeli. Abomeli, who is the youngest in her age category, took on the South of England indoor championships at Lee Valley athletics centre.
The day started well for Ismae who competed in the 200m. Finishing 3rd in her heat with 27.97 (just shy of her indoor 200m PB 27.55), she narrowly missed out on qualification for the semi-finals.
Whilst she did not qualify for the 200m semi-final, Ismae used this to push her forwards when competing in her second event of the day. Despite the 30 girls in her age category jumping, Ismae qualified for the final and finished 9th with a jump of 4.49m.
This competition shows the incredible promise Ismae has to offer for the upcoming season!
The Southern competition also saw our very own Tim Williams officiating the high jump, long jump and pole vault. Whilst this is not the highest level we have seen Coach Tim officiate, it is fantastic to see our officials working at such high level competitions.
There are many opportunities to get involved and volunteer with the club, if officiating interests you you can speak to any of our coaches or members of committee!
