London Indoor Games 2023

January saw the start of many season openers for our athletes, the 2023 London indoor games hosted at Lee Valley Athletics Centre was one of the first competitions that a few of our athletes set their eyes on.

The 21st and 28th of Jan saw the start of the 2023 athletics season for our athletes Bethany Shimmen, Eve Seery, Harriet Edwards, Harvey Humphries, Ismae Abomeli, Lewis Parsons, Leah Channing, and Lewis Parsons.

The athletes competed across the two weekends in an array of different events.

First up the multi event group:

Eve, Harriet and Bethany took centre stage first competing in the high jump competition finishing narrowingly close with Harriet finishing joint 2nd place with a jump of 1.43m. Bethany (1.38m) and Eve (1.33m) finishing 5th and 7th respectively.

Both Bethany and Harriet went on to challenge in the 60m Hurdles event. Completing 2 heats, both athletes walked away with personal bests. Bethany finishing with a time of 10.58, Harriet finishing with a time of 9.94 and another second place.

Eve Seery also competed in a second and final event, the shot putt, joining the other girls with a personal best with a throw of 9.66m.

The sprints group also came to impress with performances across the 200m and 60m.

Harvey Humphries flying off the back of winter training with a new personal best in the 400m of 57.34, landing him with a 3rd place finish. Harvey also competed in the 200m, crossing the line with a time of 24.43.

Harvey was not the only one running the 200m; Ismae Abomeli, Lewis Parsons and Leah Channing also sprinted their way through the 1 lap race. Ismae finishing with a time of 27.64 earning her 2nd place, Lewis with a time of 23.47 and Leah with a time of 29.59.

Lewis and Leah also competed in the 60m. through the 2 hets of racing, Lewis walked away with a best time of 7.41, whilst Leah walked away with an 8.70- a new personal best.

The final event of the weekend was long jump, which Ismae also competed. Completing the competition with a best jump of 4.58m.

Whilst it is the very first competition for most of our athletes, we are excited to see how much further they will go in the upcoming season. Many of them are looking forward to the upcoming indoor championships, held at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, as many of them tailor their training to peak at this time of the season. Amongst all these indoor competitions, many athletes will wait until outdoor season before they are able to demonstrate their full potential and rival previous personal bests.

We are incredibly proud of the performances and attitudes held by our athletes these past weekends, and cannot wait to see what else they will deliver in the upcoming season.
