Thanet athletes to represent Kent

The 15th of January saw 4 of our incredible under 11 athletes take on the sportshall trials for a chance to compete in the Kent team.

Evan Fox, Jonjo Walkin, Mia Brady and Grace Warrington all competed at Ashford indoor sportshall on Sunday, and each gave incredible performances across 10 sports-hall events.

The sportshall decathlon comprised of the following events:

  • Standing long jump

  • Standing triple jump

  • Balance test

  • Vertical jump

  • Foam javelin

  • Hi stepper

  • Speed bounce

  • 1 lap race

  • 2 lap race

Each athlete took part in the decathlon with the top 3 boys and girls receiving medals on the day. The athletes competed in 1 singular age division combining both primary school year 5 and year 6. Evan, Mia and Grace competing as the oldest in their division (year 6) and Jonjo competing in the youngest (year 5)

In the girls competition Mia and Grace shone placing 8th and 6th respectively, earning their place in the Kent team! Mia scoring a total of 422 points and Grace scoring a total of 435 points.

For the boys, Evan finished with a fantastic 467 points in 5th place, which made him the 3rd athlete from Thanet AC selected to represent. Jonjo also completed the trials with a respectable 401 points. Sadly Jonjo narrowly missed out on a Kent selection, however he showed promise for the upcoming summer season as the youngest in his age division.

After successfully earning their Kent selection; Evan, Grace and Mia will now go on to represent Kent earning their place on the Thanet AC wall of fame at county level, as well as competing as part of the Kent team at the Southeast regional championships in February!

We are incredibly proud of our athletes as we look ahead to the summer season, they bring great promise and enthusiasm to continue to represent the club well.
